Dear Overwhelmed by Debt,
I get it, I do. We’ve all faced hard times and it doesn’t seem like there’s a way out. There are lots of people who get into debt without really understanding what they got themselves into. I was one of those people. Even though what I owed wasn’t a large sum compared to others, it was huge to me.
But we’re not here to talk about numbers. We’re here to talk about you. Your life. Your precious life.
Yes, it is precious. If you don’t believe me, look at the people around you who care. And if you don’t feel like there is such a person, let me be the one.
I truly believe everyone’s life is worth living for. We are all unique and are on this earth for a reason. That means you are meant for something great. Yes, you’re in debt, but that should not define your life. No amount of money you owe should.

Debt is simply a reflection of some choices you made in the past. That’s it. And while it seems overwhelming (I know some of you take anti-depressants), know that taking it one day at a time really helps.
Go out for a walk. Go laugh and cry with friends or a movie. Scream into a pillow. Do what will help get those feelings out. And know that there is always a plan.
And don’t let those debtors treat you like crap. You are a human, plain and simple. You deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Not to blame the people who call you, but they only know you through your debt, dear friend. They do not know how truly wonderful you are.
It took me a while to stop shaming myself from the things I did to get into debt. But you know what? I focused on my health, the good things in my life and making sure I focused on the positive. And you can too.
Please trust me when I say you are a valuable human being.
